MELBOURNE, Fla. – After falling on Friday evening, the Nova Southeastern softball team suffered a series sweep at the hands of No. 10 Florida Tech, dropping both parts of a Saturday doubleheader at Nancy Bottge Field. NSU fell 5-2 in the first game, before the Panthers topped NSU 4-1 in the series finale.
INSIDE THE MATCHUP (GAME ONE):

HOW IT HAPPENED:
TOP 2ND | The Sharks tallied their two runs of the game in the same inning, as
Keeley Mayers and
Lexie Storrer both sent solo homers over the centerfield fence to make it 2-0.
BOTTOM 3RD | The Panthers were able to tie the game, 2-2, the next inning as Xiarysse Emerencia doubled to right center and Jaden Kline singled through the right side, each bringing in a run.
BOTTOM 6TH | After two scoreless innings, FIT broke the tie with three runs in the sixth, as Cheyenne Nelson hit an RBI-double up the middle and Emerencia sent a two-run homer over the right field fence.
INSIDE THE STATS:
- Suka Van Gurp finished 2-for-4 while Mayers was 1-for-2 and Storrer went 1-for-3.
- Sydney Lageyre was also 1-for-3.
- Storrer took the loss, pitching all 6.0 innings and allowing five runs on 10 hits. She also dished out seven strikeouts.

FINAL: Florida Tech Panthers 4 (W: M. Murphy, 18-5), Nova Southeastern Sharks 1 (L: M. Schmoll, 13-7)
RECORDS: Nova Southeastern (25-19, 14-10 SSC), Florida Tech (33-10, 17-7 SSC)
HOW IT HAPPENED:
TOP 2ND | With the bases loaded and one out, Lageyre singled to second base, as
Stephanie Wang crossed the plate for a 1-0 Shark lead and representing NSU's lone run of the game.
BOTTOM 2ND | FIT responded in the home half of the inning, as Victoria Szrom singled to right field.
BOTTOM 3RD | An RBI-single by Melinda Rule gave Florida Tech the lead, 2-1.
BOTTOM 5TH | The Panthers tacked on a few insurance runs in the fifth as Shanysse Emerencia scored on a bunt by Rule and Rule scored on an RBI-single by Mikayla Wessel.
INSIDE THE STATS:
- The Sharks were limited to four hits, as Wang, Storrer and Lageyre went 1-for-3 and Van Gurp went 1-for-2.
- Miriam Schmoll was handed the loss as she went the distance, giving up four runs on nine hits with three strikeouts.
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:
- Today's split doubleheader loss brings the overall series to 32-21 in favor of the Panthers.
UP NEXT
The Sharks will host its final home series of 2019 this upcoming Thursday and Friday against Rollins, with Thursday's first pitch slated for 6:00 p.m.
